The Top 10 Women

1. Teri Van Dyke - My volleyball career started in 6th grade at age 12. I have gone to volleyball camps every summer since I was 12, played on junior Olympic teams that traveled to Canada, received a scholarship to college to play Division I volleyball and received numerous awards, honors and recognition and played internationally all for my ability to play this wonderful and exciting sport of volleyball. I was runner-up to be “Player of Decade” for Illinois in volleyball from 1980-1990 and have traveled all over the world to play volleyball, coached many players and teams both indoor and beach and have been fortunate to be playing at the highest level of competition for over 10 years throughout my 26 years of experience.

2. Franci Van Zwieten - Franci is a fourth grade teacher at Calvary Christian Academy. She grew up in Walled Lake, Michigan until she was 13 and then moved to Naples, Florida. At Naples High School Franci played four years of varsity volleyball were she was an all-state player, basketball another four years at the varsity level, and softball were they were state champions twice. She then moved on to the University of Georgia playing volleyball for three years and finished up her last year at Florida State University.

3. Lynda Street - I grew up in Punta Gorda, Florida. I graduated from Charlotte High in Punta Gorda and I will be graduating Fl. Atlantic University next semester. I am a full time accountant and I do taxes… fun, fun, fun. I like the series because of the locations and I get to see old friends, plus the competition is always good and we have everything available to us like water, vendors, and beer. I hope to win all the events that I play in 2006. Those are always my expectations but not always reality. My favorite memories are from the old national tournaments, lots of money and lots of fun.

4. Melissa Smith
– I was born in Nebraska and then moved to Orlando at age 10. I have two older sisters and a twin brother who all played collegiate volleyball. My older sister, Jenni Luke, was runner-up in the AA division at 2005 National Championships. I graduated from Lake Mary High School (1992) where I played volleyball and basketball. Attended North Carolina State on a volleyball scholarship. Graduated summa cum laude in 1996 and was named Female Scholar Athlete of the Year for NC State. While attending University of Florida Law School, I coached the men’s club volleyball team that was the national runners-up in 1997.

5. Bonnie Levin
– She grew up in both Miami Beach and North Miami Beach, FL. Bonnie attended Nova Southeastern University and St. Thomas School of Law were she played basketball and now works as an attorney. I love the site locations, the tournament staff, and the combination of great competition in a beach atmosphere. I’m dating myself but I have grown with the ESM family, having participated in beach volleyball and triathlon events. I hope to compete in more tournaments, finish top three all the time, and have a great time.

6. Tara Burton
- This Clearwater resident works as a teacher and varsity volleyball coach at Palm Harbor University High School. Tara grew up in Sarasota and attended Riverview High School. Moving on to Pasco-Hernando Community College, Tara then received a full athletic scholarship to play volleyball at Jacksonville University. Tara enjoys a variety of activities and sports. The Zephyrhills Beach Volleyball Series is great practice as she will again be competing in AVP tournaments with her new partner Chara Harris. Tara is optimistic about winning a few tournaments this summer.

7. Capri Hilgendorf
- I am a fulltime student at the University of Northwood, graduating in May 2006 with a B.A in Marketing/Advertising. I work part time for Phoenix Title Insurance Corporation, a title company located in Palm Beach. I am a Florida native and grew up on the beaches of South Florida. I attended Lake Worth High School and played volleyball, soccer, and softball, however in college I only stuck with volleyball. I play in the series because of the well-rounded competition; it is definitely one of, if not the strongest tours in Florida. The prizes are better then other tours also. For the 2006 season I am going to continue to play with my partner Brandi Tenlen, and coming off our first open win last year we hope to increase our showings in the finals. Capri’s favorite memory of last season was taking the title at our local beach in Delray, defeating two veterans!

8. Raquel Beson
- Beson, nicknamed (Roc) resides in Michigan where she is a second grade teacher, volleyball, and middle school track coach. This summer her plans are to live in Hermosa Beach, California to further her volleyball aspirations. She began playing volleyball when she was in in 5th grade. Thankfully after much time, hard work, and practice, she led her high school team to two state championship finals. Beson received All-State, All-Region, and All-Conference honors.

9. Cindy Phillips – I grew up in a small town in Ontario, Canada. I played all sports in high school and played Basketball for Ryerson University in Toronto. I didn’t start playing beach volleyball until I was 25 years old and I knew nothing about the sport at the time. I started playing in an indoor beach facility in London Ontario and fell in love with the sport instantly. I played one season on the amateur tour in Canada and one season on the Pro tour (yes we had one!) before I decided to start coming to Florida to train for the winter. I spent 2 years traveling back and forth, (training here and playing on the pro tour in Canada), and then I got tired of going back and forth and just decided to stay in Florida to pursue my volleyball dreams!

10. Tree Jones - A 2-year resident of Miami Beach. Originally from Michigan and played on the Midwest Pro Volleyball Association tour. Her highlights include: 1999 Best Offensive Player, three 1st place finishes in 1999, 2nd place finish in 2001, 4-year Champion of Alfred’s International Beach Tournament in Negril, Jamaica: 1997-2000, and 2nd place finish in 2005 Zephyrhills National Championships.

The Top 10 Men

1. Mike DiPierro – I grew up in pompano beach and went to high school at Cardinal Gibbons and college at Lindenwood University. I played volleyball was named player of the year in Broward county my senior year in high school earned All-American honors each year at Lindenwood. I am currently coaching volleyball and substitute teaching with aspirations of getting a full time job next year. I play on your series because I grew up playing the series and have really enjoyed it over the years. My favorite memories of playing the series have to be in 2003 when my brother and I won the National Championship in front of a large crowd. My expectations for the year are to qualify for the AVP every event and upset a few teams in the main draw. I am also looking forward to playing on the Zephyrhills tour and striving toward a third National Championship.

2. David DiPierro
– Native to Pompano Beach, Dave works as a firefighter/paramedic. He also has a personal training business. His education background includes: Cardinal Gibbons High School, Florida Atlantic University, Broward Community College, and Coral Springs Fire Academy. The series is an exciting and fun atmosphere with lots of free Bud Light and Zephyrhills water. Dave hopes to win a couple regular season events and finish top in the top three at nationals during the 2006 season. Winning the 2003 national championship would rank at the top of his favorite memories.

3. Jimmy Van Zwieten
– The Pompano Beach resident is working towards a PhD in Ocean Engineering at Florida Atlantic University. He has already received both his BS and MS from FAU. Jimmy loves playing volleyball and will not complain about the cash prizes for a successful tournament. High expectations heading into the 2006 season as he’s been training hard at the FAST program and is in better shape than he been for several years. Jimmy has been playing quite a bit and hopes to win several events this summer. His favorite memory was winning the National Championships with Eric Wurtz in 1998.

4. Tyler Lesneski
- I grew up in Michigan, and was active with soccer, basketball, baseball, and tennis at St. Joseph High School. Attending Western Michigan University, I played tennis and graduated with a degree in business sales and marketing. I enjoy the atmosphere on the beach and I have respect for the people running the tour. I expect win at least two tournaments and qualify for the AVP. My favorite memories include winning my first tournament in Florida with Steve Van Zwieten and winning Daytona with Bill Maik. Mona-Vie, a health juice, supports Tyler and his efforts on the beach.

5. Joey Cash – I was born on June 13, 1978 in Port Charlotte, Florida. I’ve been playing volleyball since I was 14 years old. I attended Eckerd College where I played indoor for four years. During those four years I have been awarded: 1998 1st Team All-American, 1999 2nd Team All-American, 2000 MVP and won the national championships, 2001 Division I 2nd Team All-American. Since Eckerd I have become a Licensed Title Agent and work in Tampa for an attorney.

6. Keawe Adolpho
– I was born in O’ahu, Hawaii, but grew up in Florida. I turn twenty on April 15, I know I’m getting up there. I went to Northeast High, same as Kent Ammons and Steve Grotowski. I’m currently doing interior construction. I expect this season to be mad fun and real competitive as it always is. I like playing this series because of the good turnouts, competition, sweet sponsors, hopefully getting some of that prize money, and a good time at the beach. One of the coolest things about last year’s tour was the free watermelon and the watermelon eating contests. I always wanted to be in one of those things but I knew if I was I wouldn’t be able to move on the court. I was jealous.

7. Ossie Barreras
– I was born in Puerto Rico, but I grew up in Orlando and now call Deerfield Beach my second home where I work in software sales. I attended Lake Howell High School (Winter Park, FL) and Park University (Kansas City, MO). A 4 time All-American that played against Mike Dipierro in college. We were in the same conference and used to have battles, his team and ours, ask him about it.

8. Kent Ammons
- Born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, Kent is a Northeast High School graduate now taking classes at the University of North Florida. Volleyball is a great avenue to meet people. Kent hopes to improve this summer and even get a few tournament wins under his belt. Along with enjoying his days in college, his favorite memories include the Bud Light player’s parties.

9. Andre Melo
- At 27, Andre has built up quite an impressive resume. Growing up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and attending high school in Fairfax, VA. An All-American at George Mason University, Andre led NCAA Division I men’s volleyball in aces for two consecutive seasons, 2000-2001 and holds every serving record at George Mason University. He now resides in Deerfield Beach working as a civil engineer consultant. Andre says the Zephyrhills Beach Volleyball series is the best and most exciting tour in Florida.

10. Steve Grotowski - The 2005 Miami Beach National Champion won for the second time at age 23. The England born native grew up in Ft. Lauderdale. Steve is now taking classes at Broward community College. He has also been a juniors indoor volleyball coach for the past 5 years and is in his first year as the head coach. Steve will play in several AVP events throughout the summer. His skills developed playing in the Bud Light series.
